Thanks to the success of Logan, the X-Men Cinematic Universe has seen a bump in popularity. The gritty action film bid farewell to Hugh Jackman's take on Wolverine, but it helped usher in a series of new X-Men titles. 20th Century Fox is preparing to kickoff production on two films as The Dark Phoenix and New Mutants prepare to being filming. Full casts for the projects have yet to be released, but it looks like one star has already had to back out of their role.

Sorry, K-pop fans. If you were hoping to see Rain suit up as an X-Men, it appears as if you've missed your chance.

According to a new interview with Lee Beom Soo, the K-pop superstar had to turn down a role in one of Fox's upcoming X-Men films. Soo, who co-stars with Rain in the biographical film Uhm Bok-dong, said he was impressed with the younger actor's loyalty towards their project.

Praising Rain's acting abilities, Soo revealed his co-star had actually been cast in an upcoming X-Men film; However, thanks to conflict schedules, Rain was forced to turn down the role to work on Uhm Bok-dong. The actor explained that Rain would've needed to film his X-Men bit starting in July whilst the Korean bio filmed until August.

Soo didn't know which film Rain had been up for, but fans can make a good guess. Fox is about to enter production on both New Mutants and The Dark Phoenix this year. The former project will begin filming in the U.S. this month. It is expected that The Dark Phoenix will begin filming in July, so it seems likely that Rain was up for the latter feature.

There's also the matter of age to consider. New Mutants is expected to be Fox's 'young adult' entrance into the X-Men universe. The stars cast for the film so far have all been in their mid-20s. Rain recently celebrated his 34th birthday, so the actor is just out of the film's age range. The Dark Phoenix is expected to have an older cast with both Michael Fassbender and more expected to reprise their roles.
