The time is almost upon us: the official launch of the DC Cinematic Universe hits this Friday with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (this Thursday if you're too impatient - screenings start at 6pm!). While we don't expect to get a ton of backstory on Batman and what brought him to the older, grizzled point he appears as in the film, there is at least one artifact from his past sitting prominently in the Batcave: a defaced Robin costume.

A Robin costume on display has been a staple of Batman comicbooks, so seeing it is immediately one of those fanboy point and shout excitedly moments. The "HAHAHA Joke's On You Batman" on the costume points ominously to the Joker having killed this Robin, as he did to Jason Todd in the 1980s.

This new look at the costume appeared on imgur and reportedly comes from the artbook for BvS. Here, we can clearly see the cape in particular has been burnt, and we can more clearly see the torn shorts of the costume and dented gauntlets. In the comics, Joker beat Todd with a crowbar, then blew him up - could it be identical in the film universe?

We'll find out more in just a few days.
