G.I. Joe Is Reportedly Getting A Theatrical Reboot

Well, since connected universes are all the rage in the film industry these days, it's no surprise that Hasbro is going all-in with their properties. Michael Bay recently revealed that there are currently 14 completed Transformers scripts, and the company also has a My Little Pony film on the way.

In addition to all of that excitement, it looks like Hasbro's other major property is coming back to the big screen for another round.

While talking with the Los Angeles Times, Simon Waters - consumer products overseer at Hasbro Studios - revealed that they have much more planned for G.I. Joe.

"The world has changed, and I think you're going to see G.I. Joe changing with it. There's going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters."

Not only are there new movies on the horizon for the iconic toy line, but they will be a different kind of Joe than anyone has seen before. This statement makes it seem like the franchise will drop the classic characters like Duke and Snake Eyes, and move into some of the more exciting and unconventional characters that fans came to love later on.

When the new G.I. Joe movie is eventually sent into production, it will be the third live-action film from the franchise. Channing Tatum starred as Duke in the 2009 movie, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and he passed the torch to Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who portrayed Roadblock in 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

While the sequel earned a bit more money than the first film, it wasn't received as well from a critical standpoint. The studio hasn't made another Joe film since.

Hopefully, this new take on the characters will succeed in reinvigorating the lifeless franchise. The G.I. Joe toys and cartoons were a giant part of many people's childhood, so a good movie would be a welcomed gift.
