Mark Strong Was Nervous About Singing In 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'

Of the many stunts in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the one which may have may Mark Strong the most nervous was singing.

In the film's third act, Strong delivers his own rendition of a certain John Denver song. It's not the first time the actor has sang on camera, having played a musician in the British television series Our Friend in the North, but it's an all eyes on him moment as his Merlin character commands the screen with a strong voice.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Strong reveals why his nerves got to him. Check it out in the video above or continue reading.

"I'm not a singer," Strong said. "I don't think of myself as a singer, so it made me really nervous but the fact is, where it occurs in the film and how it occurs is much more about Merlin standing with his feet about and belting it out in order to attract the attention of the guards."

"It's funny," Kingsman: The Golden Circle director Matthew Vaughn chimes in. "It was the only time I'd seen you slightly nervous."

Vaughn, however, had severeal reasons for using John Denver's "Country Roads" but the biggest would be squashed by the time the film was released.

"I thought everyone would have forgotten about John Denver and all his music so I wrote that and then we're the fifth movie this year using it," Vaughn said. "I thought I was being original!"

"It also lends itself to the Scottishness in Merlin," Strong concluded.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters on September 22, 2017.
