Pirates Of The Caribbean 5: Will Turner's Son Talks Meeting Jack Sparrow

The Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise may have lost its way over the last few years, but the early reactions to Dead Men Tell No Tales - the fifth film - make it sound like Jack Sparrow is returning to form.

There is a ton of buzz surrounding the new installment, and much of that stems from the way the movie goes back to the fun-loving, sometimes romantic, style of the first Pirates. The addition of Will Turner's son, Henry - played by Brenton Thwaites - was a great idea, as the character can explore the roots of his father.

While everyone seems to love Thwaites' performance in the movie, he was terrified to film certain scenes. EW spoke with the 27-year-old actor, and he revealed that it was difficult to line-up opposite Jack Sparrow - one of this teenage icons - in his very first scene.

"My first scene with [Johnny], if I'm remembering correctly, was the scene where Henry is trying to convince Jack Sparrow to team up with him and find this ancient treasure that could one, help Henry, and two, ultimately save Jack — so, a lot of things going on.

"I just remember being absolutely terrified, like I'd never acted in my life before doing this scene," said Thwaites. "I just remember thinking, 'How am I going to stand there and talk to Johnny Depp for three minutes, opposite a character that I'd grown up with in my teenage years? It's not going to be possible.'"

It's certainly intimidating, but that fear probably adds a lot to the overall tone of the scene. When you think about the characters, it's a similar scenario. Jack Sparrow is a legend, he's been talked about from Tortuga to Singapore, and the young Henry has surely heard about the elder pirate. There was undoubtedly some fear surrounding the encounter.

Kleut, Kevin McNally, Jessica Green, Martin Klebba, and Nico Cortez.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters on May 26, 2017.
