Power Rangers Director Teases Easter Eggs

Power Rangers might be a reboot, but it still aims to please longtime fans of the franchise. That includes plenty of easter eggs and tips of the cap to fans, but if you're a newcomer to the series you shouldn't be worried about feeling left out.

Director Dean Israelite recently spoke to Collider about how they're approaching the origin story of the Rangers, and they hope to appeal to longtime fans as well as newcomers to the franchise. "I mean I think ultimately it's just about making the characters really interesting, and making their stories very compelling, and the arc of the movie really fun and exciting and entertaining and if all of that retains the spirit of the origin story of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, then I think you're servicing the fans hopefully and you're bringing in new fans who didn't know about it but are along for that ride."

That same wide net approach will also pertain to their handling of easter eggs, which won't alienate those who aren't as familiar with Power Rangers, a film that is currently sporting a 3.52 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings. "As we were just talking about in the press conference, there are a lot of easter eggs, and I think some of those are going to go over people's heads but it doesn't matter because whatever they are it will feel really germane to what's going on, so it just feels part of the scene, and if you have the added knowledge of the brand it means a little bit more and if you don't it's still working in the moment, and that's sort of how we approach servicing all of these things."

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).

Power Rangers is set to land in theaters on March 24, 2017.
