Star Wars: The Force Awakens Prop Gallery with Intriguing Secrets

A huge new gallery of prop images from Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released by Lucasfilm on Wired.com Thursday morning. From blasters to helmets, and yes, a couple of very important lightsabers, these are close-up looks from multiple angles of some of the props that will become iconic to a new generation of Star Wars fans.

A handful of the props, which are individually named on the Wired page, have some intriguing questions built into them, too.

In the helmets section, there are plenty of nice shots of the new stormtrooper and TIE pilot helmets. The shots of the X-wing pilot helmets are much more intriguing, though. For one, the Resistance phoenix symbol is identical to that of the Rebel Alliance from the original trilogy. That's interesting mostly because we've been told the New Republic was formed soon after the events of Return of the Jedi in canon books and comics, and even seen a new symbol for that Republic revealed. This could indicated the Resistance is just the purely military arm, or even a splinter of sorts. The inclusion of a couple of original trilogy X-wing helmets in the gallery also raise questions.

Some of the individual blaster names are interesting, too. There's the "Huttsplitter" blaster with a grip and bayonet that both look like they're made of bone. One of the smaller pistols says it's made on Ryloth - that's the home planet of the Twi'lek race, and makes us wonder if a Twi'lek might play a medium-sized role in the film (one Twi'lek, Hera, is one of the leads of Star Wars Rebels right now). Two of the pistols include "Trandoshan" elements, which makes us think of a Trandoshan bounty hunter named Bossk. The lizard-people race could see a return here, too, then.

Finally, there's a blaster that says it belongs to "Dasha Promenti," which is interesting because that's a brand-new character name.
