There Is An 6-Film Power Rangers Movie Franchise Planned

Saban has always treasured the Power Rangers franchise, and despite not having a film in theaters for some time the series has continued to popular amongst fans. Hopes are high for the newest live-action reboot from Lionsgate, and the plan is already in place for future entries.

That in itself isn't really newsworthy, as every film these days is part of a "master plan" or "cinematic universe" in some way. From The Mummy and Kong: Skull Island to the growing universes of DC and Marvel, everything is plotted out way in advance. Saban seems to be taking it to a slightly extreme degree, though, as he recently told Variety that "We already have a six-movie story arc… If this film is as successful as I hope, on March 24, on March 25 we'll have the first story meeting for Movie No. 2."

A sequel is a no-brainer, even if the film is just moderately successful. Still, six films is ambitious, even for the biggest of franchises. If it does get six films, the special effects and big fight scenes won't be at the heart of it, as Screenwriter John Gatins explained. "The effects are only part of the movie," he says. "We also are developing likable characters. They don't take themselves too seriously, in terms of how they relate. I wanted the movie to say that losers or weirdos, by coming together, can realize the importance of the responsibility on their shoulders."

It will be interesting to see fan's reactions to the film, and whether they are fully invested in this new universe.

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).

Power Rangers is set to land in theaters on March 24, 2017.
