Arnold Schwarzenegger Won't Do Expendables 4 Without Sylvester Stallone

With the future of Expendables 4 in question, one of its biggest stars says he may not participate now that Sylvester Stallone has exited the franchise. Stallone cut ties with the project last week over creative differences concerning the script and director choice for the fourth installment of the action franchise.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Arnold Schwarzenegger said he wouldn't be apart of the production without the Oscar winner, who co-wrote and starred in all three Expendables films.

"There is no Expendables without Sly," Schwarzenegger said. "I would never do the movie without him, no."

While it's been presumed Schwarzenegger's character Trench would have some role in the upcoming film, the former governor of California said he had no idea what direction the film was headed in.

"I have not seen the script; I don't even know if there is a script, even though they want to shoot in August again, like they usually do," he said.

He also noted that he was underwhelmed by Expendables 3 compared to its predecessors and thought his part was "not written well" and he "didn't believe that (he) had any value in the movie."

Schwarzenegger went on to reaffirm his love for the franchise and that he thought Stallone's ideas were vital in making the film successful.

"I love the franchise, by the way," he said. "I think it's a spectacular franchise, The Expendables. I think that Sly has good ideas, what he wants to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script [in] which my part is very well-developed, I would do it. If not, then I won't do it."

Schwarzenegger is the first of Sly's co-stars to express his distaste for the departure.

Details about Expendables 4 are few and far between, with no release date set in stone aside from a vague 2018 window.
