Bill Paxton Dies At 61

Actor Bill Paxton has passed away at the age of 61. His death is the result of complications from surgery.

Paxton's family released the following statement:

"It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father."

Paxton's career included many iconic, fan favorite films, including The Terminator, Weird Science, Titanic, Apollo 13, Twister, Predator 2, True Lies and Aliens. His career also included television roles, such as his Emmy-nominated performance in Hatfields and McCoy. He also appeared in HBO's Big Love and joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing John Garrett on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. At the time of his death, Paxton was appearing on the CBS series Training Day.

Paxton's accolades a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in Aliens, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance By A Cast in a Motion Picture for Apollo 13, in addition to two Emmy nominations, and three Golden Globe awards nominations.

Paxton is survived by two children and his second wife.
