Evil Looms At A Boarding School In New Trailer For 'The Blackcoat's Daughter'

Coming exclusively to DirecTV in February is The Blackcoat's Daughter, an atmospheric and incredibly creepy horror film starring Emma Roberts, Kiernan Shipka, and Lucy Boynton. Check out the new trailer below to get a taste of the supernatural shenanigans!

The film's synopsis is as follows:

"A deeply atmospheric and terrifying new horror film, The Blackcoat's Daughter centers on Kat (Shipka) and Rose (Boynton), two girls who are left alone at their prep school Bramford over winter break when their parents mysteriously fail to pick them up. While the girls experience increasingly strange and creepy occurrences at the isolated school, we cross cut to another story—that of Joan (Roberts), a troubled young woman on the road, who, for unknown reasons, is determined to get to Bramford as fast as she can.

As Joan gets closer to the school, Kat becomes plagued by progressively intense and horrifying visions, with Rose doing her best to help her new friend as she slips further and further into the grasp of an unseen evil force. The movie suspensefully builds to the moment when the two stories will finally intersect, setting the stage for a shocking and unforgettable climax."

The film has been floating around the festival circuit since 2015, where it was previously named February, but is only now getting a release. The film was directed by Osgood Perkins, who is the son of Psycho star Anthony Perkins.

Interestingly, this film was the feature film debut of Perkins as a director, and it has been so long since it's premiere, that his second film, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, which has already debuted on Netflix. This might be one of the rare instances where a director's sophomore film gets released to the public before their first.

Regardless of what the film is called, I got to see it at Fantastic Fest and it easily became one of my favorites of the year. Roberts is fantastic, as always, and being one of her first big roles since Mad Men, Shipka proves to have a promising career.

What do you think of the film's name change? Would you be more interested in seeing it if it stuck with its original title or does the title not matter? Let us know in the comments!

The Blackcoat's Daughter will be available on DirecTV February 16 and will have a limited theatrical run starting March 31 in select theaters.
