Charlie Hunnam Compares King Arthur To Sons Of Anarchy

Charlie Hunnam's role as Jax Teller, on the ever-popular Sons Of Anarchy, launched the actor into the next phase of his career. After starring on the show for each of its seven seasons, Hunnam became a household name around the globe.

While Sons Of Anarchy was originally based on Shakespeare's Hamlet, Hunnam decided to provide a much more literal take on medieval storytelling.

Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of The Sword is set to hit theaters this Summer, and Hunnam is portraying the lead character. The movie tells the story of Arthur's rise to power, and how he lived as a bandit in his early adult life.

The themes of brotherhood, living outside the law, and anti-heroism are key in the new movie, which makes it sound a lot like Hunnam's role on Sons Of Anarchy.

When speaking with EW about King Arthur, the actor was asked about the parallels between those two characters, and whether or not he realized how similar they actually were while filming.

"I was certainly cognizant of it and wanted to try to distance myself. King Arthur was the first thing I did after sons had finished so I was eager to have sort of a departure from that and not repeat too much, but there were just inherent similarities and I realized that it would be foolish to try to fight it."

Hunnam went on to explain exactly what made the characters so alike.

"It's about loyalty to your brothers and the sort of unlikely family growing up." The star continued, "We all need family, so he's developed this little family around."
