The Disney Parks blog has released new images of the recently announced Pandora – The World of Avatar coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2017.

Pandora is a 12-acre area of Disney's Animal Kingdom inspired by James Cameron's science fiction blockbuster Avatar. The project was announced in April during a special presentation.

Pandora will feature bioluminescent plant life that will make the entire area a special sight after nightfall. Pandora is also expected to feature Na'vi artifacts and at least two Avatar attractions, including Avatar Flight of Passa and the Na'vi River Journey.

The images include a look at the Satu'li Canteen, Pandora's main restaurant. The Canteen will feature Na'vi art and cultural artifacts.

Another image shows Windtraders, a store where visitors can purchase Na'vi items as souvenirs, as well as toys, science kits, and other items.

A third image shows Pongu Pongu, "a special drink location with a design that is as eclectic as its Expat owner."

Earlier today, Disney Parks and Resorts also released a new look at the upcoming Star Wars-themed land coming to Disney Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla. The new images offered a look at the Star Wars-themed area at night and including an attraction allowing visitors to take control of the Millennium Falcon.

Fans looking for science fiction movie thrills seem to have a lot to look forward to from Disney Parks and Results in the near future.

In Avatar, released in 2009, on the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.

Avatar was directed, written, produced, and co-edited by James Cameron. The film starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver.

Avatar remains the highest-grossing movie ever worldwide, resting on an international box office total $2.788 billion.

James Cameron announced plans for at least four Avatar sequels. The first is targeting a theatrical release date near Christmas of 2018.
