First Assassin's Creed Movie Clip Released

Twentieth Century Fox has released the first clip from Assassin's Creed, the upcoming film based on the hit Ubisoft video game franchise.

The clip shows Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard) forcing Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) into the device called the Animus. The technological marvel allows Callum to relive the "genetic memories" of his long-dead ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha.

The Animus was developed by Abstergo industries as part of the Animus Project and is a key artifact from the Assassin's Creed video games, factoring heavily into the secret war between the Assassins and the Templars.

In Assassin's Creed, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin's Creed opens in theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
