First Look At Pennywise From Stephen King's It Revealed

The first image of the terrifying Pennywise to be featured in the adaptation of Stephen King's It has been revealed.

Pennywise the Dancing Clown, making his cinematic debut in next year's film, is played by Bill Skarsgard. The character promises to be one of the most terrifying red-nosed jokesters ever to grace the silver screen.

"It's such an extreme character," Skarsgard says before calling Pennywise, "inhumane."

"It's beyond even a sociopath, because he's not even human," the actor adds. "He's not even a clown. I'm playing just one of the beings It creates."

Fans of the Stephen King novel know that Pennywise is no joke. The character is simply the embodiment of evil, preying on a small town and feeding on its fear (and sometimes its residents). "It's important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It's purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look," says Skarsgard. "It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt. What's funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it's funny."

Skarsgard has some big clown shoes to fill. He takes on the role following in the foot steps of Tim Curry who delivered an iconic performance in the original It film in 1990.
