Game Of Thrones: Does Jon Snow Return In Season 6?

When the credits began to roll on the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, fans found themselves asking, "Is Jon Snow really dead?" Well, those involved with the show stood firm in insisted that yes, Jon Snow is dead…but does that mean he can't come back?

Well we can establish one thing at least: reviving the dead is possible, to varying degrees, in the world of Game of Thrones. The White Walkers turn those they kill into undead wights that become a part of their army. Thoros of Myr has resurrected Beric Dondarrion on multiple occasions, though his wounds do not heal. Qyburn turned the corpse of Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane into the monstrous Ser Robert Strong.

Is there anybody with the ability to do this for Jon Snow nearby to him? Maybe. Melisandre, the episode's titular "Red Woman," worships the same Lord of Light that grants Thoros his power. In theory, she should also be capable of performing a resurrection. However, previews show that Melisandre is having a crisis of faith following Stannis Baratheon's death, and never believed such power was possible in the first place, until she saw it for herself. Even if she does have the theoretical capability, she may or may not be in the right state of mind to pull it off.

So the possibility is there, but will HBO go that route? They've killed off major characters without remorse in the past, should Jon Snow be any different?

What really makes Jon Snow seem special in this instance is that so many unsolved mysteries surround him. Who is his mother? Is he the true Hero of Light? Or is he one of the dragon's three heads? The show simply seems to have more invested in him than any other character in the show.

This is pure speculation, but I expect Jon to be back in Season 6. While the death of the other members of Jon's family each felt like a tragic but fulfilling ending, his story simply seems unfinished. If you need something more concrete than that, rumors from the set suggest Jon will be back in a big way, and HBO's Season 6 marketing has either been teasing Jon's return, or trolling fans extra hard.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
