Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode Count Not Yet Decided Says HBO

Game of Thrones may be one of the most popular television shows on right now, but its time is soon coming to an end. Season 7 will premiere in summer 2017 (later than usual), but after that, there is just season 8 left to finish up the epic saga of Westeros.

As the eighth and final season approaches, there's been a lot of speculation about just how HBO and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will end the series - including how many episodes they include in season 8.

Previous rumors and fan speculation (based on what Benioff and Weiss have said) led to the belief that Game of Thrones season 8 will be the shortest yet. That number comes from what the showrunners have claimed will be a 73 episode series overall; season 7 will have seven eps, leaving an estimated six for season 8.

However, HBO programming president Casey Bloys tells EW something slightly different, stating, "They're still figuring out the shape of the season, what they want to do. I'll take as many as they want to do. If they give me eight, I'll want 10. But it's really up to them. They'll let me know."

Of course, by bouncing the ball back into Benioff and Weiss' court, Bloys could essentially be seen as confirming the showrunners' previously-stated wishes - unless, of course, Benioff and Weiss have a different dream ending in mind. Sounds like they have carte blanche over at HBO right now...
