J.K. Rowling Says No More Harry Potter Stories After Cursed Child

Creator and author J.K. Rowling is bidding a fond farewell to Harry Potter once more. Rowling says that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the two-part stage production that officially opened in London this weekend, will be the final story she tells featuring "the boy who lived."

"He goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we're done. This is the next generation, you know," Rowling tells Reuters. "So, I'm thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now."

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place 19 years after the events of the previous final story in Harry's saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It's clear that fans were eager for more of Harry's adventures, however, as the two-part, five-hour long play is sold out through May 2017.

Rowling created the story for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany. She says transitioning from novels to the stage was a surprisingly simple task.

"(It) chimed perfectly with the material I had about the next generation and I could see it would work perfectly," she said. "So, I never wanted to write another novel, but this will give the fans something special."

While Rowling may be done with Harry Potter, she is not done with Harry's "wizarding world." Rowling will make her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first film in a planned trilogy that take place in New York City in the 1920s.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens Nov. 18, 2016.
