When you think of hilarious comedy mixed with the hero that Gotham deserves, what comes to mind? Obviously, the answer is Kevin Smith.

The geek-turned-comedy director has always shared his passion for Batman - and all other superheroes - with his fans, and his work over the past couple of years has reflected that. In addition to his hilarious comedies, AMC nerd shows, and slew of podcasts, Smith has stepped in to direct episodes of CW's hit shows The Flash and Supergirl.

Now, it looks like the director will finally get to helm a project focused on the Dark Knight himself. Well, sort of.

ABC hit-comedy The Goldbergs has become famous for its hilarious portrayal of family life in the 80s. As the decade is drawing to a close on the show, the characters will be gearing up for the release of the 1989 blockbuster, Batman.

For the episode about the events surrounding the film's release, Smith will use his extensive comic knowledge - and knack for genuine comedy - to bring the show to life.

Kevin Smith is more than excited for the opporuntiy, and he had this to say about the new project:

"I grew up watching the Adam West Batman and I was in a sold out movie theater for Tim Burton's Batman on opening day, June 23rd, 1989, so I can't wait to recreate those early eras of Bat-amania in the Goldbergs Universe."

"Luckily," Smith continued, "the funny folks in front of and behind the cameras who make this hysterical show every week will be doing all the heavy lifting in our time travel experiment."

The Smith-directed episode of The Goldbergs will begin filming next week.
