Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures have released the first trailer for Kong: Skull Island, the upcoming monster movie reviving cinema icon King Kong.

In the Kong: Skull Island, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they're crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

Kong: Skull Island is the second installment of Legendary Pictures' Godzilla-Kong film series. The shared giant monster universe launched with 2014's Godzilla. The series will continue in Godzilla 2 in 2019, and the two marquee monsters will clash in Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.

The trailer drops after Legendary and Warner Bros. launched a viral marketing campaign centered on Project Monarch, which was introduced in Godzilla and links that film to Kong: Skull Island. The studios also released a still image of King Kong as he appears in Kong: Skull Island.
