Lost Producer Comments On Possible Series Revival

Lost was a huge (yuge?) event in 2000s television that it still lives on in streaming service form, passed down form generation to... another generation. Like any big property of the past, there's always continued fan debate/speculation/wishful thinking that the show could be rebooted or continued, as return to The Island for more mystery/horror/sci-fi/drama fun.

We here at Comicbook.com recently wrote about 5 Ways Lost could return to the airwaves - but how likely is the possibility of it happening? Show Executive Producer and writer Damon Lindelof recently spoke on the subject.

Talking with EW, Lindelof wasn't all tht enthusiastic about bringing Lost back - mostly due to the nature of the show's ending. As Lindelof puts it, "I do think it's somewhat of a betrayal to go back in and say there's more story to tell that I just came up with now, especially when we had ample time to end it on our own terms."

Lost has one of the most controversial endings of any modern TV series (see also: The Sopranos), and many viewers actually felt let down by the series conclusion. However we may feel about it, though, Lindelof is right in his additional statement about what the challenge would be in bringing Lost fans back to the experience they had before: "Those characters not only died, but we showed you their experience post-death. Any new take on Lost will probably have to feature new characters, as it should."

Bringing in new characters would, narratively speaking, be a must - but Lost hasn't had the greatest luck when introducing new faces. Everyone remembers the infamous "Nikki and Paulo" introduction (and swift deaths) of season 3. Just plopping new people into the Lost concept and premise doesn't automatically result in success.
