Michael Bay Producing Movie About Bankrupt Trump-Like America

Here's something you probably knew you would see in the headlines today: Michael Bay is getting political.

The Transformers franchise director (and his Platinum Dunes) label just sold a new film called Little America to Universal Pictures, after a heated bidding war. The film takes place in a dystopian America where the president has bankrupt the country and China has called in its debts. According to THR it will be "sci-fun" rather than sci-fi."

In what is either a savvy or cynical move (you decide), it seems Hollywood is going to cash in on all the current uproar and anxiety of Donald Trump's presidency, as the report clearly states that dystopian America of the future was created when a "Donald Trump-like president has bankrupt America and China has called in its debts. The Asian giant now owns America and many Americans have immigrated to China looking for work.

Of course, this being a Bay-influenced film, it's going to be more about the bang-bang and boom-boom than any political commentary. As the continued synopsis explains, it'll be something more like a Snake Plissken flick: "In this new world, a former American Force Recon member is hired by a Chinese billionaire to go into an American ghetto and rescue his daughter. Sources have said it is in the tone of Escape From New York, the 1981 John Carpenter film that starred Kurt Russell."

Is this too soon or not soon enough? And if Bay is not directing, who would you like to see at the helm? Meanwhile, an actual remake of Escape From New York also remains in development...
