Netflix has emerged as a global powerhouse of original programming. While the site found success as a streaming service for films and television shows, the ventures into original series' and films have turned Netflix into an absolute juggernaut.

Netflix is now the production team behind some of the world's most celebrated TV series, like House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Narcos, Stranger Things, Master Of None, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and many more.

Fans are already looking forward to the network's slate of new shows in 2017, with series' like A Series Of Unfortunate Events, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher given premiere dates.

According to Variety, Netflix has much more in store for 2017 than everyone thought. When the site spoke with Netflix Chief content officer Ted Sarandos, he spoke on the big plans the network has in store.

In addition to the 30 shows currently in production, Netflix is moving forward with 20 new unscripted series that are set to release next year.

Sarandos commented that unscripted shows are the next big thing in television, and that they are vastly different from the traditional series people are used to. Part of the reason they expect success with these new shows, is their ability to appeal to a worldwide audience. Sarandos said shows like Beastmaster, one of their planned unscripted series, are "more likely to travel internationally."

With all of this unscripted television planned, Netflix is expected to produce at least 1000 hours of original content in 2017, but that could be a conservative estimate.
