New Look At Luke Evans and Emma Watson As Gaston and Belle In Beauty And The Beast

This week's new issue of Empire magazine is all about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but they did take a brief pause from a galaxy far, far away to visit eighteenth century France for another upcoming Disney film. Beauty and The Beast is building hype already, as the live-action reimagining of the 1991 classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios has been steadily revealing peeks at the look and feel of the movie.

While that has been primarily focused on Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast, noooo oooonnnnneee promotes like Gaston, steals the spotlight like Gaston... Actor Luke Evans, who stars as the villain of the piece, shared an image from Empire that paints him in a little better light. The picture, reflective of early in the animated film, shows Gaston with a bunch of flowers, off to make Belle his. She, meanwhile, clutches to a book and looks... unimpressed.

"Smooth Gaston, very smooth!" Evans wrote with the image.

Beauty and the Beast follows the immense success of The Jungle Book and Cinderella, as Walt Disney Studios continues to build their live action fairy tale division. With a classic story, a large ensemble cast, and a soundtrack from Alan Menken that no one growing up in the early nineties couldn't easily sing along to, it's about as safe a bet for box office success as any film can be.

Now, how will Luke Evans' version of Gaston handle being "dismissed, rejected, publicly humiliated?" Hopefully Josh Gad can help him pull himself together.

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters March 17, 2017 from director Bill Condon. The film also stars Kevin Kline as Belle's father Maurice, Josh Gad as Gaston's sidekick LeFou, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Audra McDonald as Garderobe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, and Nathan Mack as Chip.

After Beauty and the Beast, Disney will continue their live-action fairy tale line with Cruella based on 101 Dalmations, a sequel to Maleficent, a sequel to The Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Mulan, Christopher Robin, and several more down the road.
