New Underworld: Blood Wars Poster Released

Kate Beckinsale is back as Selene for Underworld: Blood Wars, the next installment of the Underworld action-horror film franchise.

Last week, Screen Gems released the first trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars. Now, Beckinsale herself has tweeted out the first official Underworld: Blood Wars movie poster.

The new Underworld: Blood Wars poster features Beckinsale as Selene, blending into the white background and dual wielding guns. Check out the full poster below.

Underworld: Blood Wars is the fifth installment of the Underworld franchise. The series deals with the ongoing conflict between Lycans (werewolves) and Vampires. The series' central protagonist is Selene, a vampire Death Dealer who hunts Lycans. The first film, Underworld, was released in 2003, with Selene attempting to exterminate the Lycans who she believes slaughtered her family. Underworld: Evolution followed, and dealt with the last Vampire Elder and the Lycan/Vampire hybrid. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans in 2009 was a prequel that traced the origin of the war between Vampires and Lycan. Underworld: Awakening, released in 2012, returned to the present day as humans were becoming aware of the existence of Vampires and Lycan.

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Underworld: Blood Wars is directed by Anna Foerster and written by Cory Goodman. The film opens in theaters on Jan. 6, 2017.
