Steven Moffat Says Sherlock Season 4 Finale Is The Script He's Most Proud Of

Steven Moffat is a name known on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean for writing and showrunner on both Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Most recently, Doctor Who has been on a bit of a hiatus while Moffat and co-showrunner Mark Gatiss have been working on finally making Sherlock Season 4 a reality.

Moffat has been very hands-on in the creation and continuation of Sherlock, which modernizes Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective hero, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), and his partner, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman).

Moffat has written or co-written eight of Sherlock's 13 episodes. Dare he claim a favorite? He dares, and it seems his most recent script has knocked an old favorite off of its perch.

"Normally I answer 'A Scandal In Belgravia,' which I kind of think is the best thing I've ever written," Moffat said when the question was put to him. "But 'The Final Problem' (co-written with Mark [Gatiss]) might be edging ahead. Let's see what you all think..."

"A Scandal in Belgravia" is a pretty solid pick from Moffat. It is a fan favorite episode that introduced Irene Adler to the series and used the memorable "I AM [SHER] LOCKED" puzzle.

We can't judge the quality of "The Final Problem" just yet because it is the third and final episode of Sherlock Season 4. Whether or not it lives up to the considerable hype remains to be seen.

Sherlock Season 4 will consist of three episodes in total, just like the preceding three seasons. The premiere episode is titled "The Six Thatchers." The second episode is titled "The Lying Detective." The finale will be "The Final Problem."

Sherlock has been on an extended hiatus, only returning for last year's New Year's special, titled "The Abominable Bride." The episode turned the premise of Sherlock on its end by imagining the modernized characters as they may appear and act in the original Victorian setting of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories.
