Stranger Things: Demogorgon Animatronic Head Test Will Give You Chills

Stranger Things borrow many elements from 1980s cinema to create a blend of science fiction and horror that became a hit for Netflix.

One such element was a terrifying monster creature from another realm that stalked the town of Hawkins, Indiana for prey to drag to its nightmarish realm. That realm was called the Upside Down by Eleven and her friends, and the creature was called the Demogorgon, a name inspired by the monster from Mike's Dungeons & Dragons game.

The creature spent much of its time in the shadows, but when it finally entered the light it was quite a sight to behold. That remains true even in the creatures conceptual stage. For evidence, here's the animatronic head test that was done by practical effect workshop Spectral Motion. It is every bit as chilling as the finished Demogorgon that appeared on-screen.

In Stranger Things, in a small town where everyone knows everyone, a peculiar incident starts a chain of events that leads to the disappearance of a child - which begins to tear at the fabric of an otherwise peaceful community. Dark government agencies and seemingly malevolent supernatural forces converge on the town, while a few locals begin to understand that there's more going on than meets the eye.

Stranger Things is created, written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer and executive-produced by Shawn Levy. It stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Matthew Modine, Noah Schnapp, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, and Dacre Montgomery.

Stranger Things Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Strange Things Season 2 is planned for a 2017 release.
