Corin Hardy To Helm 'The Conjuring' Spin-Off Film 'The Nun'

Filmmaker James Wan's talents cannot be understated, as virtually every film he touches goes on to receive both huge box office numbers as well as earn positive critical reception. One of his first directorial efforts, Saw, went on to garner six sequels (with another in production currently), Insidious has its third sequel coming out this year, and The Conjuring got not just a sequel, but a spin-off, a spin-off sequel, and a spin-off from the sequel. If all that sounds confusing, let's just summarize by saying the man knows how to make horror movies and the latest entry in the Conjuring-verse, The Nun, has found a director.

Corin Hardy, who directed 2015's The Hallow, will take on directorial responsibilities for The Nun. The original The Conjuring didn't lend itself to having too many manifestations of evil, but the Annabelle doll was compelling enough to get two films of her own. In The Conjuring 2, there were multiple terrifying visages, with the demonic nun being one of the most terrifying things in the film, so a spin-off will surely be terrifying.

The Hallow is currently on Netflix and focuses on a family moving to the Irish countryside and discovering there's an evil lurking in the swamp. The film is incredibly atmospheric and has some great creature effects, so Hardy makes a good route to go in a film that will need to create an air of dread while also using some frightening makeup effects.

There's not much else we know about The Nun, but considering how quickly Wan helps churn out films within the world he created (need we remind you that Annabelle 2 comes out this year?), it wouldn't be surprising if the film is ready at the beginning of next year, if not sooner. Hopefully, the film can also incorporate The Crooked Man, another one of the scariest elements of last year's The Conjuring 2.

Do you think the nun character deserves her own film or do you wish we were just seeing more adventures of Ed and Lorraine Warren? Let us know in the comments!
