The Exorcist Unveils Disturbing New Key Art

There have been more than a few worthy contenders to the Horror throne in recent years, but for many the crown will always be held by William Freidkin's 1973 classic The Exorcist.

FOX is hoping that audiences will be equally intrigued by their new television series, itself based on the original book by William Peter Blatty, and have released some key art from the series (via EW) that any Exorcist fan will recognize. Just like the book and the original film, the image is a bit uncomfortable to look at, and that is what the creators intended.

The series will follow two priests, one of which is the progressive and ambitious face of the Catholic Church Father Thomas Ortega (played by Alfonso Herrera). When Angela, a member of his parish comes to him for help (played by Gina Davis) in regards to her daughter, who might be possessed by a demon, Ortega seeks some help.

That help comes in the form of Father Marcus Brennan (played by Ben Daniels), who's job within the church is to defend it against all enemies, including demons. The series will follow the duo as they try to rid Angela's family of this unwanted spirit.
