The Walking Dead Midseason Finale Recap With Spoilers: Start To Finish

The "Start To Finish" episode of The Walking Dead opens with music playing. Someone leaves an empty plate by a door. There is a close-up of some children's toys. Sam is coloring. Ants are crawling in through a window and devouring a cookie on a plate.

After the credits, the episode picks up where the last episode ended. The tower has fallen and knocked a big hole in the wall, and hundreds of walkers are flooding into the Alexandria community. Rick Grimes has fallen on the ground. He gets up and yells at the others to get back in their houses. Rick shoots at some of the walkers, and Deanna goes after him and tells him they all need to get back.

Carol and Morgan are running, but Carol trips and falls. Morgan goes back and helps her get inside a house with him.

Deanna falls down near some walkers. There are walkers all around her, but Rick helps her get up and get away. Deanna is bleeding from her side.

Maggie is almost overtaken by walkers, but she's able to save herself by climbing up a ladder onto a guard post. There are walkers swarming all around the bottom of the guard post, and Maggie is laying on top of it. She stares up at the green balloons that Glenn released at the end of the last episode.

Eugene hears Daryl's voice in the walkie talkie, and he picks it up and takes it with him. He's the voice that Daryl, Abraham, and Sasha heard on a previous episode. Eugene, Rosita, and Tara make it into a garage to hide.

Rick, Carl, Gabriel, Michonne, Deanna, and Ron are running away from the walker horde. Jesse shows up and shoots some walkers, then she motions the group to come inside her house.

Outside the walls of Alexandria, Glenn and Enid are watching everything go down. They discuss what they should do. Enid want to leave, but Glenn wants to try to help the others. Glenn reveals to Enid that Maggie is pregnant. Glenn tells Enid to just go, but he says that's how you lose people.

Music is playing again in Sam's room. Jesse rushes in with Rick and the others. She tells him that she needs him to shut off the music and close the blinds. Sam asks if it's because of the monsters.

Morgan and Carol hide out in Morgan's house to escape the walker horde. Carol tells Morgan that she doesn't trust him. Carol is nursing a head injury from falling before they made it into the house. Morgan thinks Carol might have a concussion. Morgan tells Carol that what ever differences they have can wait, that she needs to sit down.

Denise is in the basement of the house with the injured wolf that Morgan let live. The wolf tells Denise that he doesn't think Morgan is coming back. Denise tells the wolf that Morgan said he wouldn't let him go until he was sure he wouldn't kill again. The wolf tells Denise how he has an infection from cutting himself on a rusty bumper. Denise is afraid, but she asks the wolf to show her his wound. Denise tells the wolf that he wasn't born this way and the he can change. She opens her bag and pulls out supplies to treat the wolf's wound.

Inside Jesse's house, Rick and Michonne are tending to Deanna's side injury. They pull back her shirt to reveal that she was bitten, during all the commotion of the walkers storming through the hole in the wall.

Rick is telling Jesse that Deanna doesn't have long. Rick says Deanna knows what happens, but she's cracking jokes. Rick tells Jesse they have enough food to hide out for awhile. He says he'll try to get to the armory and fire the guns to draw them away.

Michonne is talking to Deanna. Michonne tells her that her plans for Alexandria could work. Deanna tells Michonne that she got to do what she wanted to do right up to the end. Deanna asks Michonne what she wants. Michonne says she wants this place to work, but Deanna asks Michonne what she wants for herself. Michonne says she doesn't know, and Deanna says she better.

Ron and Carl are talking. Ron tells Carl that his dad is a killer, and Carl says so is his. Ron tells Carl that he's dead. He then goes and locks the door and tells Carl that he's dead to.

Ron attacks Carl, and the noise of their fight attracts the attention of the walkers outside. Rick and Jesse try to get into the room but they can't.

Walkers break into the house, and Ron and Carl rush into the other room with Rick and Jesse. Rick, Jesse, and Carl work together to block the walkers with furniture. Ron walks away into another room, and Carl follows him. Carl pulls a gun on Ron and tells him to give him his gun. Carl says, "I know my dad killed your dad, but your dad was an asshole."

Michonne looks out the window and says more walkers are approaching. Rick hears a cry from upstairs and heads for Judith. He sees blood where Deanna was laying but no Deanna. He finds Deanna reaching for the baby and almost kills her but Deanna cries out, "It's still me!" Deanna got weak before she could get to Judith. Rick helps her to the bed. Deanna tells Rick, "They're yours now," regarding the plans for Alexandria. Rick tells Deanna someone needs to be with her from now on. Deanna gives Rick a note for Spencer. She asks Rick to look out for him like he looks out for his people. She tells Rick, "They're all your people." She reflects on when she went to help him and says she did so because he is "one of us." Jessie calls for Rick and Rick runs to her.

Eugene, Tara and Rosita sit inside. Rosita wonders in Alexandria is over but Tara is optimistic, saying it's not, but they have to earn it. Rosita says it feels like Abraham is dead but Tara insists he isn't. Eugene carries on reading a world history book and holding a lighter. Tara calls for a plan from Rosita and she suggests shooting out the lock on the door to get inside the house but Eugene is able to pick the lock.

Carol sits with Morgan and rests her eyes. Morgan calls for Carol moments later when he can't find her and she shoves him, running off with the keys.

Rick, Gabriel, Jessie, Ron and Carol hold the door shut but walkers are getting in. They retreat to the stairs, using a couch to block the herd. Rick directs Michonne on collecting two walkers.

Carol draws a knife on Denise and tells her to get away from the Wolf. Morgan steps between Carol and the Wolf, demanding it wait.

Rick corrals a pair zombies and explains that they'll cover themselves with zombie guts. Ron and Jessie are skeptical. Michonne and Rick ge started as Father Gabriel looks on, nauseated. He asks what will happen with Deanna but no one answer.

Morgan asks Carol to put down the knife. He insists if they kill they are no better than the others. Carol is willing to kill Morgan if he won't let her kill the Wolf.

Michonne approaches Deanna and startles her. Deanna asks what's going and Michonne tells her they'll have to go. She offers to kill Deanna but Deanna says she isn't ready. She'll do it herself, she says. She recites a phrase in Latin and translates it to, "Someday this pain will be useful to you," for Michonne and dismisses her with a few last optimistic words.

Rick and the others cover themselves in zombie guts. Sam walks in and is scared but Jessie pleads with him to cooperate.

Carol insists she'll kill the Wolf and he agrees with her but Morgan still won't let her. She tells him to step aside and tells him she won't ask again. Morgan knocks the blade from her hand and the two fight for it until Morgan body slams her before before knocked out by the Wolf.

Rick and the group prepare to head out.

The Wolf frees himself and Denise pleads with him not to kill them. He laughs as he points his knife at her. Tara, Rosita, and Eugene enter and the Wolf holds Denise hostage demanding they give him their guns. He backs them up as he holds Denise hostage and walks out the door.

Rick puts Judith under some zombie guts and the group is ready to head out. They walk among the infested living room in plain sight.

Glenn and Enid climb a tree where they see Maggie trapped at her post.

Deanna is about to kill herself when she hears walkers at the door. She opens it and starts shooting until she's out of bullets and takes on the herd.

Rick, Carl, Michonne, Gabriel, Ron, Sam, and Jessie walk out of the house into the zombie-infested streets, hand in hand. Sam calls for his mom several times.

Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham continue down the road. They find a group of bikers stopped in the road. One man suggests they step outside and threaten to split them right in half, "Straight through to the sinuses." Abraham, Sasha, and Daryl hesitantly step out. The man demands their weapons be handed over, as well as the truck and everything in it. Every little bit of their property now belongs to Negan.
