Tim Burton Updates Fans on Possibility of Beetlejuice 2

Beetlejuice 2 is one of those long-awaited sequels to a famous film that never seems to get going, despite being discussed over and over and over again for decades. But now that even Ghostbusters has been finally dusted off for a reboot, Beetlejuice fans are more hopeful than ever that something could shake loose.

The original cast (like Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder) have all been open to the possibility of revisiting the world (and netherworld) of Beetlejuice; however, director Tim Burton continues to sound skeptical about the possibility.

While doing press for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children in Italy, Burton gave the following answer about the chances of fans seeing Beetlejuice 2 in the near future (loose translated via Cinefilos):

"Rule number one, do not talk about future [movies] until they are realized. In the past I have talked about two projects that were then canceled. I love the character... If it has to happen it will happen... Better not to plan too far in advance. We'll see. Do not forget the best movie I've ever done, Superman. "

That last bit refers to Superman Lives, the famous almost-happened early 2000s Superman reboot with Burton and star Nic Cage. Given the absolutely bizarre depiction of Superman that film went with, it's funny to hear Burton refer to it as his best.

In any event, it sounds like Beetlejuice 2 is still in developmental limbo, with little sign of anything significant changing. After seeing how divisive and underwhelming the Ghostbusters reboot was, maybe that's a good thing?

No changes for Beetlejuice 2 right now. We'll keep you updated.
