'Star Wars Rebels' Creator Reveals Ahsoka Was Once A 'Mentor' To Kanan

Thanks to her significant role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano became a fan-favorite character in the Star Wars galaxy. Having not been given a proper end to her story in the animated series, the Jedi was able to appear in Star Wars Rebels, which was set many years after audiences had last seen her. With the character having gone on to become an important fixture of the new animated series, many fans have wondered how deep her ties to the rest of the characters run, which show creator Dave Filoni happily shared details about on his Twitter page.

Filoni revealed that Ahsoka and Kanan had known each other when they were younger and learning at the Jedi Temple, but they did not know each other well. The extent of their relationship was that they both attended lightsaber training at the same time.

Further down the road, however, the two reunited and Ahsoka needed to see just how skilled Kanan had become with the saber. Filoni even went on to share some dialogue from a scene the two shared together:

Ahsoka: Even at a young age you were gifted with a lightsaber. But without training and discipline, those skills fade.

Kanan: So it seems.

(Kanan gets up again, he is a bit dispirited.)

Kanan: (CONT'D): I haven't had to fight with my lightsaber very often. For a while, I chose not to. I was…

(Kanan struggles with the moment, Ahsoka helps).

Ahsoka: You were afraid to use it. I understand.

(Kanan appreciated her words.)

Kanan: I've been teaching Ezra as best as I can. I want him to be the Jedi I'm not, that I couldn't be.

Ahsoka: And I want you to be the Jedi that you are."

The show creator also shared an image he had created to represent the moment, furthering the bond that the characters displayed in Rebels.

The new season of Star Wars Rebels could be the last we see of either Kanan or Ahsoka, which premieres this fall, and will be the series' final season.

Star Wars Rebels airs Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Disney XD, and follows the adventures of Hera (Vanessa Marshall), Sabine (Tiya Sircar), Zeb (Steve Blum), and the Jedi Kanan (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Ezra (Taylor Gray), a small crew that's finding their way in the nascent Rebel Alliance a few years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Executive produced by Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni, the in-canon series helps to connect the worlds of the films and the previous animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with guest appearances so far by characters like Lando Calrissian, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Leia Organa, Wedge Antilles, and more.
