John Boyega Reveals His Reaction to Seeing Carrie Fisher's Final Scenes

In 2015, Star Wars fans were forced to say goodbye to Han Solo following a fatal confrontation he had with his son Kylo Ren. In The Last Jedi, sadly, fans will also be saying goodbye to Leia Organa due to the sudden passing of actress Carrie Fisher late last year. Costar John Boyega recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter the effect of witnessing her final scenes had on him.

"I think the sendoff is really cool. Even before she passed away, I'd see her in scenes and be like, 'This is really cool for both Carrie and Mark [Hamill],' who are the last two original leads [alive in the franchise]," the actor revealed.

"I felt like they deserve more and more — they've been doing this for a while and have been the beating heart of something special, and I just feel like [The Last Jedi] pays homage to them in general," he continued. "But unfortunately, now that she's passed, it does have a deeper meaning." He adds, "I think the fans are going to appreciate that."

This is only the latest of many comments the actor has made about the impact Fisher had on him, as he's currently doing the promotional rounds for his latest film, Detroit.

"Carrie Fisher means freedom," Boyega shared recently to Variety. "She influenced people to be authentic and say what you want, however you want. I'll miss her energy. You were always going to hear Carrie Fisher somewhere saying something that she has no business saying, that makes everybody laugh."

The upcoming film is sure to be an incredibly emotional journey for audiences when it hits theaters on December 15.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second film in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The film will deal with Luke training Rey to become a, and possibly the last, Jedi. Meanwhile, the Resistance, including Poe Dameron and First Order defector Finn, continues to fight against the First Order, led by General Hux, while Supreme Leader Snoke and his Dark Side follower Kylo Ren continue their mysterious plot.
