Mark Hamill Teases Star Wars: Episode VIII Elaborate Special Effects Sequence for Luke Skywalker

At the Salt Lake Comic Con, Mark Hamill kicked off the event with an hour long spotlight panel. As he did at Star Wars Celebration Europe in July, Hamill took the stage alone to talk directly to the fans as if they were "in [his] own living room," rather than having a moderator or making it into a more traditional question and answer session. While he cautioned that he was "contractually forbidden from talking about" Star Wars: Episode VIII, he did let one little tidbit slip that should set some Star Wars fans' imaginations running wild. He started his talk by saying, "I'm afraid to do anything these days; anything you do or say leads to speculation," so let's not let him down.
While talking about seeing Batman: The Killing Joke for the first time, the most recent product for which he voiced The Joker, Hamill mentioned that it was sent to him while he was on set for Episode VIII. The actor mentioned they were "doing night shoots; that's where you sleep all day, you get up in the late afternoon, and go to work, and as soon as it gets dark you film until the sun comes up the next morning."
Now, night shoots aren't uncommon - yes, even in a galaxy far, far away things happen at night sometimes, not just during the day. But his next tiny comment may have hinted at something major for Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi.
"But I came home and I realized, 'oh my gosh, they have an interview for me tomorrow afternoon. I haven't watched [The Killing Joke], and the day after I start on a sequence, an elaborate special effects sequence where I'm not going to be able to do anything. I have to focus specifically on the Episode VIII scene I'm doing," he said, nonchalantly continuing his story.
Elaborate special effect sequences set at night featuring Luke Skywalker? That sounds like the recipe for something brand new. Now, it could be something as simple as getting Luke back in the pilot's seat of an X-wing or another vehicle, which while exciting, wouldn't be anything drastically original. Still, even something that strokes basic nostalgia in that manner has the potential for a thrilling moment. Seeing Luke twist and turn in his X-wing once more, pulling off a daring rescue or escape, would be a blast.
Even more exciting, however, is the potential for Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master, to really cut loose with the Force. Once he became a true Jedi Knight, we didn't see all that much of him actually being a Jedi Knight, after all. Sure, there's a bit of a tease of it in the comicbook Star Wars Aftermath from Marvel Comics, but it would be great to see on screen. If Luke gets to really fight - big lightsaber duel, Force powers getting used, fans would go absolutely insane over that kind of moment.
We don't know which kind of special effect sequence Hamill was talking about, and probably will not know until Star Wars: Episode VIII is released on December 15, 2017.
