Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Artist Olly Gibbs Goes Full Jar Jar on Latest Poster

For whatever reason, Star Wars fan artists just seem to love going full Jar Jar. Whenever a new poster - or even a new trailer comes out, a contingency of fans immediately look to the Gungans to make the poster, well, different (though some might argue even better). That's what artist Olly Gibbs did, offering up a new take on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's latest poster, making every single character a Gungan, the race that Jar Jar Binks belongs to. Look closely, and you'll see that even the droid K-2SO is Jar-Jar-ized.

Gibbs, who said when this poster came out that he was "all Binksed out" after having altered previous posters, came back to it after all. See the full poster and the side-by-side in the gallery below.

"Pfft who am I kidding. Behold! The poster you've all been waiting for: The new and improved final #RogueOne poster! #TheBrotherhoodOfBinks," Gibbs tweeted.

Indeed, in this poster Gungans play every role - Jyn Erso: a Gungan. Saw Guerrera: a Gungan. Chirrut Îmwe? A blind Force-worshiping Gungan. And again, yes, K-2SO is a droid Gungan.

Jar Jar Binks was lambasted by some fans when he debuted in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, though the character is equally beloved by others, especially younger fans. Largely seen as comic relief in that first film (and his brief appearances in others), Binks was instrumental to the plot. In further appearances in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Binks was further fleshed out; still bumbling and stumbling around, the good-hearted Gungan did manage to pull off some pretty impressive feats, making at least some difference in the galaxy.

Will we ever see a more intense, serious look at the Gungan race in the Star Wars universe? Well, probably not in the films, though anything is possible. They were almost entirely CGI in the prequel trilogy, and the aesthetic that Lucasfilm has been pushing in their new round of films has been one built once again around practical effects, so a significant role might be a pipe dream. In the meantime, though, whether it's tongue-in-cheek or not, we have people like Olly Gibbs keeping the Gungan and Jar Jar love alive. Meesa loves it.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first standalone film from the Star Wars universe, telling a story outside of the core "Skywalker Saga" of the episodic films. Taking place shortly before the events of the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the Gareth Edwards-directed film stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, a young woman recruited to the Rebel Alliance due to her father and his association with the Empire's new super weapon, the Death Star. The story emerges from the original opening crawl, which described the Rebel Alliance's first major victory in stealing the plans to the planet destroyer.

Rogue One arrives in theaters December 16, 2016.
