Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Home Release Date Rumored

If listings on three Australian retailers are correct, fans could be watching Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at home just after Star Wars Celebration this year. Star Wars fansite RebelScum spotted listings on EZY DVD, Sanity, and JB Hi-Fi for Rogue One home release on DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray, but EZY has that extra tidbit: April 28, 2017.
That release date clicks fairly well; Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out on DVD and Blu-ray early April 2016, so the month is dead on, at the very least. The other interesting part of these listings is that the 3D Blu-ray is due to come out at the same time as the standard 2D edition. For The Force Awakens, there was some level of controversy over the 3D edition being held back by about half a year, as that edition also included new special features like Director's Commentary that weren't on the initial release.
No other details were on any of the listings, so we don't know special features, number of discs, or anything like that. April 28 may not be a worldwide release date; many films get slightly staggered release dates, but usually all within the same month, so it could be coming a little sooner to some locations. Also, this doesn't take into account the digital HD version, which for most films comes out a week or two before the disc-based edition, so you might be able to watch Rogue One on your phone or tablet while you're waiting in line for a panel at Celebration. Glorious technology.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue One tells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
