Star Wars: Episode VIII Will Explore Kylo Ren's 'Humanity'

Star Wars: Episode VIII is one of THE most anticipated movies of 2017, and in the wake of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's success, the franchise is keeping a steady buzz going as we move into 2017.

There are many mysteries that The Force Awakens introduced, which Episode VIII must now confront - however, there is also the task of continuing the arcs and development of the characters we met in Episode VII, including Adam Driver's Kylo Ren.

The Star Wars and Girls actor was recently on Larry King Now, and there was an interesting quote from Driver, regarding where Kylo Ren is headed in Episode VIII.

"I think, I mean this is such a general answer, but you know, humanity," Driver said. "Even though it's very much a blockbuster movie, and I'm aware of that, there was no taking that for granted in that we were forced to be general. You know, there were a lot of plot points that we knew were operating in the first one that we get to explain more in the second one that kind of make the both of them make sense."

Driver basically acknowledges the kind of franchise-minded approach to these cinematic universes, when he says that they knew going through production on Force Awakens that there were dangling threads that would later be supported by Episode VIII. It's a continuing question of whether viewers are getting proper standalone narratives in movies these days - but that's another discussion entirely.

In any event, the implications of Kylo Ren exploring his "humanity" could indicate Snoke's hold over Ben Solo/Kylo Ren wanes in Episode VIII; could the villain finally be lured back to the light that secretly compels him? Maybe. Or, in a twist on Luke's training in Empire Strikes Back, perhaps Ben Solo must explore his humanity only to snuff the last of it out as part of Snoke's training, truly becoming Kylo Ren once and for all.
