First Han Solo Set Photo Reveals A Familiar Location

After all of the set reports and teases we've seen regarding the next Star Wars spinoff movie, we finally have our first look at their shooting location and it could contain some spoilers.

An overhead shot gives an arial view of the set currently being used for the production of the Han Solo anthology film by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It's amazing how all of that secrecy can be bypassed with a drone and a camera attached.

The photograph comes from fan site Prensa Imperial from the production currently taking place in Fuerteventura on the Canary Islands. Check out the site to view the picture.

Though there was already a ton of speculation when the production was revealed to be taking place in Fuerteventura, it seems pretty clear that they're using the location as the popular planet Tatooine.

It could also be Jakku or a completely different, brand new desert planet, but neither really seems likely. For one, Tatooine is located on the outskirts of Imperial space where the Empire depends on their relationship with Jabba the Hutt to maintain control. It's home mostly to farmers but a lot of illegal activities occur there, such as smuggling. Han Solo already has an established presence on the planet, as seen in A New Hope.

Another reason is that Jakku is a junkyard planet of scavengers looking to make ends meet by picking through the debris of the epic battle between the First Order and New Republic from years prior. Since that takes place in the future of this timeline, there's not likely to be anything on the planet except for a few villages and outposts.

And finally, why would Lucasfilm introduce a third desert planet? That would just be boring.

So all signs are pointing to a return to Tatooine when the Han Solo movie hits theaters next year. Hopefully we get to see some familiar faces like Watto and Jabba. Maybe Han, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian will go gamble on some podraces?

The untitled Han Solo anthology film is scheduled to hit theaters May 25, 2018. Hopefully we will find out the official title soon—the next place Lucasfilm might make an announcement would be the D23 Expo in early July, with San Diego Comic Con following the next week.
