Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Captain Phasma Rumored To Get New Weapon

One of Gwendoline Christie's most famous roles, Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones, already wields a badass weapon in the form of Oathkeeper. Now it looks like Lucasfilm is apologizing for her flimsy appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens with different weapon for the new Saga installment.

It's well established that Christie's character Captain Phasma was pretty much wasted in the Force Awakens. She was one of the most anticipated aspects of the film when merchandise and trailers were released, but the character barely had more lines than Boba Fett and even less to do in the grand scheme of things. Maybe they'll make up for it in the new film.

Captain Phasma is said to be wielding a new staff-like weapon for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, according to Making Star Wars.

"You are going to love Captain Phasma's spear in The Last Jedi. She looks killer."

It's not a substantial development, and hopefully we get to learn more in the trailer, but at this point any mention of Captain Phasma is welcome as we gear up for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Hopefully she actually gets to use the new weapon in the latest movie and it's not just an excuse to sell more action figures. Star Wars is really good at doing that already. We know the movie is already jam packed with a ton of characters and plot to cover, but just give us the badass Captain Phasma we've been wanting to see since she appeared in the Force Awakens' trailer.

Until then, we'll just have to wait for Game of Thrones' return when we hopefully see Christie's character chop up some Whitewalkers with that sweet Valyrian steel.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
