Did The Star Wars Cast Drop A Massive Gray Jedi Hint?

It sounds like the next Star Wars movie is going to have a lot of… gray… areas.

While cast members Daisy Ridley, Kelly Marie Tran, Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro, and Mark Hamill spoke with Good Morning America, some stressed that the upcoming film would explore themes that sit in the middle of the spectrum of good and evil.

"This is the second of three films," Ridley said. "So there may be a lot of gray that's very exciting."

"We're all gray," Tran added.

The interviewer asks if Star Wars: The Last Jedi itself will dwell more in the gray area and Ridley responds:

"I would say, yes."

With how many times the interviewer and the cast members said the word 'gray,' it's kind of hard not to take this discussion as a hint toward the inclusion of Gray Jedi, or something similar, in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Gray Jedi were in the former Extended Universe stories as being balanced with both the Light and Dark Sides of the Force. We've yet to see that explored in the movies or TV shows, though it could be argued that Ahsoka Tano has taken a similar path after leaving the Jedi Order.

All of this, of course, is speculation until we get to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but we certainly wouldn't be upset if they included Gray Jedi or even a similar concept. It wouldn't be completely out of left field — even though the original trilogy dwelled firmly in the concepts of light versus dark, the prequels established that being beheld to one or the other could lead to a downfall.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres December 15.
