'The Last Jedi' Novelization Not Releasing Until 2018

The Star Wars saga has strong connections to the literary world, with many devout fans often feeding their hunger following Return of the Jedi by exploring the galaxy far, far away with a series of Extended Universe novels. For those who had hoped they could enhance their excitement for The Last Jedi by reading the film's novelization to coincide with the film's release, the bad news is direct adaptations won't be released until March of next year.
The discovery took place on Twitter when a fan noticed the release date for the novel was March 6, 2018. When asking whether this was a typo, Del Rey Books proclaimed, "Nope."
This is clearly a disappointment for fans, but it could also be the confirmation at some big changes for the Star Wars world.
In 2015, The Force Awakens delivered fans a series of surprising developments, as virtually every detail about the movie was a discovery. The fatal twist in the film's last act involving Han Solo was a massive shock, but was integral to Kylo Ren's character development.
Now that audiences are familiar with new characters like Rey and Finn, the upcoming chapter in the saga must deliver a shock even bigger than those previously seen by audiences.
Another reason why the books have probably been delayed to March is that, based on the release strategy of The Force Awakens' home video release, the digital release took place in March while the physical media release happened in April. Timing the novel to the release of the film on digital is a wise decision when it comes to getting fans excited once again.
Luckily, there are still a slew of literature leading up to the release of The Last Jedi that will focus more on the film's facts as opposed to revealing details about the film's plot.
The Last Jedi will land in theaters December 15.
