Amazing Art Shows Andrew Lincoln As One-Handed, The Walking Dead Comic Rick Grimes

Rick Grimes has two defining physical traits in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's The Walking Dead comics. One is his beard and the other is his lack of a right hand.

Since issue #28 of The Walking Dead comics, Rick Grimes has survived the zombie apocalypse with one hand. It was the Governor who made the leader into a southpaw -- something which was never realized on the AMC TV series for various reasons.

Going into the show's 100th episode, fans still hope to see the moment in live action, with someone like Negan doing the honors of cutting Rick's hand from his wrist. While it will likely never happen, one artist has created an impressive rendition of Andrew Lincoln's portrayal of Rick in true-to-the-comics form.

Check it out below as posted to the Instagram account ferpeffesklupp.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Lincoln has opened up about Rick losing his hand on multiple occasions. As it turns out, the actor has been as much an advocate for Rick losing his hand as any of the fans.

"You know, I campaigned two seasons ago when the Governor was around... I was saying, 'You've gotta do the hand guys!' and Victor [Scalise], who was in charge of special effects, just said, 'No, no no no. Anybody else but not you. It'll cost a fortune with green screen and blue screen,'" Lincoln said ahead of Season 6. "But you know, I'm of the opinion that certainly with where the story seems to be going this season, no one is safe of any long term damage."

In the midst of Season 7, though, Lincoln has come to grips with the fact that Rick will never lose his hand and has learned to appreciate it.

"They'll never let me!" Lincoln said in a more recent interview. "I think that, the moment I start getting a little bit of a heat stroke and I start going mad and then start talking about, 'It's time. You're gonna take my hand off!' Then, you know, the special effects department start to loathe it and just start nodding and just go, 'No, no, no, no, no. You have no idea how expensive that would be.' And, then also, I remember there's - with Michael Rooker and all of that rubber and how sweaty and stinky his arm became. It depends. It depends. When it gets to fall, I like the sound of it. But mid-summer, not so much."
