Jeffrey Dean Morgan Says The Walking Dead Films Red Herrings To Fool Spoilers

Earlier this month, at the AOL headquarter in NYC, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was a guest on the BUILD interview series and discussed his role as Negan in The Walking Dead and how the hit AMC show went to great-lengths to prevent spoiler-hungry fans from fighting out who Lucille's first victim was.

Aside from hiding cast memebers from onlookers and preventing most of the cast from doing interviews, the showrunners had Morgan film "kill shots on the entire cast," and the one he did with Maggie Greene/Rhee was actually leaked on purpose the night before the Season 7 premiere. When episode aired, those "kill shots" were shown during Rick Grimes's emotionally-draining dream sequence.

"It wasn't just for the dream sequence," Morgan explained. "It was also for... They edited a full version of Maggie being the victim... and someone else. And it was all a red herring. It was all to possibly be released before our episode was going to air, because there's so many peope out there trying to spoil the show."

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, The Walking Dead reigns as television's most watched drama for adults 18-49 and tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse, and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home.

The series stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Steven Yeun as Glenn, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Chandler Riggs as Carl, Lauren Cohan as Maggie, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Melissa McBride as Carol, Sonequa-Martin Green as Sasha, Michael Cudlitz as Abraham, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan.

The Walking Dead is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.

The Walking Dead will return Sunday, February 12.
