Robert Kirkman Wants The Walking Dead To Last At Least 10 Seasons

The end of the world has no end in sight.

The writer and creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman has dubbed his zombie drama the "zombie movie that never ends" in the past but a comment in the Letter Hacks section of issue #162 of The Walking Dead comics reveals how serious he is.

"No telling how long the show will last," Kirkman said. "Very hopeful we will last to Season 10 and beyond."

By comparison, The Walking Dead TV series is far behind the story of the comic series which prints new issues every month.

Kirkman commented on the matter a few months ago in another issue's Letter Hacks section, revealing his perspective on the show's pace in relation to the comics. "It took us 6 seasons to get to 100," Kirkman wrote. "It won't take us 6 years to get to 200 and that will take us to season … TWELVE. And we'll still be ahead of the show at that point."

The immediate thought here is that the ratings slides would hinder such continuation of the AMC series. However, even after taking a massive hit below leveling out with the final three episodes of 2016, The Walking Dead remains far and beyond the most watched show on cable with well over 10 million viewers per week.

The midseason 7 finale left us with moments equivalent to those of issue #111. Issue #162 was printed yesterday. Should the show follow the comics, there is a war with Negan ahead, followed by a time jump filled with civilization's rebuilding, the war with the Whisperers, and a new group from Ohio all still tome come into play.

Somewhere along the way, the writer promises he will kill the series protagonist Rick Grimes.

There is a lot of story left to tell on AMC's The Walking Dead.

Issue #162 of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead is available now at your local comic book store.
