The Walking Dead Celebrates Image Comics's 25th Anniversary With a 25-Cent Issue in February

The Walking Dead will offer their February issue at the low cost of 25 cents as part of a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Image Comics's founding in 2017.

The issue, reportedly titled "Conquered," features a cover image with Rick's prosthetic hand reaching skyward along with a dozen or so walker hands in classic Night of the Living Dead posing. While that's almost certainly an image meant to be taken symbolically and not literally, look forward to three months of fans speculating about it online.

While The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman wasn't a part of the founding of Image Comics in 1992, he is a partner, and has been a big part of the publisher's success in the last decade or so.

The Walking Dead has consistently been Image Comics's best-selling title for years now, and has bucked trends in a superhero-heavy market to be one of the most popular comics in the industry across the board. October sales indicated that The Walking Dead cracked Diamond Comics Distributors's top 10 best-selling comic books of the month.

A book that's already this successful, paired with the low selling price, might set the stage for a remarkable sales number in February, although it's difficult to imagine anything comparing to the over 1 million units sold by Marvel's Star Wars #1 in 2015.

The comic typically retails for $2.99.

The Walking Dead #163 by series creator Robert Kirkman, artist Charlie Adlard, letterer Rus Wooton, and Image Comics, begins an all-new story arc and readers are met with the aftermath of the currently-ongoing Whisperer War. The issue (Diamond Code DEC160627) will be available on Wednesday, February 1st. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, January 9th.

Skybound will also be offering Invincible #133 and Outcast #25 at the same low price point that month. You can get more information in the new issue of Previews, expected in stores next week.
