The Walking Dead: Greg Nicotero Reveals What Makes Season 7B Feel Nostalgic

The Walking Dead hooked its fanbase largely due to its cast. Not only does the group interact with fans like none other but their on-screen chemistry and talents lend themselves to making the AMC series the hit that it is.

When The Walking Dead returns for the rest of its seventh season, we will finally see that cast reassembled after having spent the first half of the season completely scattered. For some fans, this might feel a bit nostalgic. The early seasons of The Walking Dead kept everyone together and that's when everybody fell in love with the show, after all.

Speaking to Greg Nicotero in an exclusive interview aboard the 2017 Walker Stalker Cruise, ComicBook.com heard the executive producer's perspective on what makes the coming episodes so special.

"Having the opportunity to let these actors' chemistry play, there really is a lot to be said for the chemistry all the actors have," Nicotero said. "When you see them together it's great. It does feel nostalgic, and sort of, to me, it's when the show works its best. It really does fire on all cylinders. The mid-season premiere, I think, has everything the fans of the show would want."

Nicotero directs the returning episode of The Walking Dead, as well as two more later in the back eight. What fans are most concerned about, though, is finally having Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon back together.

The official synopsis for the back half of The Walking Dead Season 7 reads...

Rick's group will find out yet again that the world isn't what they thought it was. It's much bigger than anything they've seen so far. While they have a singular purpose - to defeat Negan - it won't come easy. More importantly, victory will require more than Alexandria. They need the numbers of the Kingdom and the Hilltop, but, similar to how Rick felt, Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Gregory (Xander Berkeley) do not want bloodshed. To convince them otherwise will take more than speeches. The lengths Rick and the group will have to go to in order to find weapons, food and new fighters is nothing short of remarkable.

We'll meet new survivors in incredible places. We'll see Rick and the group tested in ways we've never seen before. We'll see treachery from people we trust. Rick is confident as he will see his group and many others band together with the common goal of taking down Negan. But no amount of planning will prepare the group for all-out war with Negan and his army.
