The Walking Dead Nominated For Make-Up Artists And Hair Stylist Guild Awards

The Walking Dead may have been entirely overlooked at the Golden Globes but the crew responsible for the undead are finally being recognized.

In the TV And New Media Series - Best Special Make-Up Effects category, the AMC series earned a nomination against Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, Saturday Night Live, and Westworld.

Here is the list and their respective artist nominations:

GAME OF THRONES
Make-Up Artists: Barrie Gower, Sarah Gower
PENNY DREADFUL
Make-Up Artists: Nick Dudman, Sarita Alliso
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
Make-Up Artists: Louie Zakarian, Jason Milani, Tom Dernier
THE WALKING DEAD
Make-Up Artists: Greg Nicotero, Jake Garber
WESTWORLD
Make-Up Artists: Christien Tinsley, Hiroshi Yada

Nicotero also serves as executive producer on The Walking Dead, in addition to his VFX supervising and make-up guru abilities. He and Garber's work on the show is integral in bringing the apocalypse to life on a weekly basis, filling our TV screens with hordes of zombies.

In 2016, the VFX team worked hard on the AMC series. Not only was a horde of walkers used in the midseason 6 finale to devour a few main characters but Negan's introduction required impressive prosthetic make-up to display the brutal massacre of Glenn and Abraham's skulls. The sand covered walkers in Episode 7x06 likely didn't hurt the props given to the team, either. Furthermore, Spencer's guts were literally ripped out in the last episode of the year.

The Make-Up Artists And Hair Stylist Guild Awards will announce their winners on February 19, one week after The Walking Dead returns for the rest of its seventh season.

Previously, The Walking Dead has won Primetime Emmy Awards for its make-up work in 2011.
