'The Walking Dead' Extended Season 8 Preview Released

During a special Talking Dead which previewed the upcoming eighth season of The Walking Dead, an extended preview of the Season 8 premiere has been released.

The preview has not yet been released online -- when it is, it will be added to the top of this story.

The extended preview is a part of the 100th overall episode of The Walking Dead. It is merely a tease of what promises to be a massive episode which showrunner Scott Gimple promises will launch "the next 100 episodes" and kicks off an "explosive" batch of episodes containing the "most consecutive action" of the entire series.

Below is a description of the scene:

Maggie stands with Rick to discuss the war. Rick talks about moving the fight forward and doing it tomorrow. Maggie promises she will be there, "at least for the first part."

Ezekiel weighs in, having heard the Hilltop lost their doctor, and offering his back. Jesus says, "We'll get ours back," and Ezekiel agrees, just as the day defeats the night. He gives a kingly speech and marches off.

"The Hilltop's lucky to have you," Rick tells Maggie.

"You showed me how to be someone worth following," she replied.

"Good, after this, I'm following you," Rick said.

Elsewhere, Tara and Carol count down on a highway with Morgan and Daryl. Tara counts it on her watch with a Twizzler in her mouth. They watch the bend of the highway but nothing happens. They're disappointed until Daryl spots a herd coming around the corner. "Close enough," Tara rules. They kick it into gear and enact their plan.

Following the episode, a super-sized live episode of Talking Dead will celebrate 100 episodes of The Walking Dead, recapping the premiere and previewing what's ahead.

If the Season 8 synopsis is any indication, Rick Grimes and his crew will be taking the show and world back from Negan. Here is the official The Walking Dead Season 8 synopsis:

"Last season, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet. With the comfort of Alexandria, they let their guard down, only to be reminded how brutal the world they live in can be.

"Feeling powerless under Negan's rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn't be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviors. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough fire power to contest the Saviors.

"This season, Rick brings 'All Out War' to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless -- but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.

"Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it's not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom -- Negan and the Saviors' grip on this world may finally be coming to an end."

From the moment Season 8 begins, it will be clear to viewers the focus of The Walking Dead is back on Rick Grimes. For more on The Walking Dead Season 8 in the mean time, check out photos from the upcoming episodes in the gallery below or watch the full trailer.
