The Walking Dead Showrunner Scott Gimple Comments On Sasha's Fate

Sasha has become a topic of debate heading into the back half of The Walking Dead's seventh season. The character's fate has been in question for weeks as the stage appears to be set for her to bow out for a number of reasons.

Not only does Sasha appear to be filling the comic book role of Holly in AMC's live action adaptation but the actress portraying her has landed a full time gig on CBS. Sonequa Martin-Green is headed to the new Star Trek series. Combining the expectations from the self-sacrificing story line during the war with Negan and Martin-Green's involvement in another TV series, many fans suspect the end is near for Sasha.

The speculation has become so popular that the word has reached The Walking Dead's top dog: showrunner Scott Gimple.

"Sonequa Martin-Green can do anything," Gimple said in an interview with EW. "I've seen her battle a horde of walkers this year while simultaneously battling a stomach flu that would have had most people crying in the dirt. She can fulfill the duties of a Lieutenant Commander on a Constitution-class starship whilst battling walkers, Saviors, and whatever gets in Sasha's way. We've had to juggle before. I will certainly juggle for Star Trek any day of the week. Okay, maybe not on Sunday."

Gimple may be trying to keep Sasha's death a surprise for fans, especially following rumors of a certain Negan victim returning to the AMC series have surfaced. The showrunner has no reason to come out and spoil a major character's farewell -- something many fans wouldn't appreciate, so for now, we will have to continue our speculation and wait for The Walking Dead to return to find out.

In the comics, Holly was dating Abraham at the time of his death. During a battle at the Sanctuary, she plunges a school bus into the hideouts barriers and ends up being captured by Negan. Last seen alive in Negan's prison, she is delivered to Alexandria with a bag on her head but has been killed and reanimated as a zombie -- biting Denise and serving as a weapon for Negan until being put down.
