The Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan Explains Why His Negan Has A Beard

While most are quite positive about Jeffrey Dean Morgan's turn as Negan on The Walking Dead, there are some who have questioned the accuracy of his look, namely his beard.
In the comics, Negan is clean shaven, but the choice wasn't really about differing from the books. In fact, they even drop a line referencing his need to shave during the episode. Morgan explained the situation in detail on The Talking Dead.
"That wasn't in the comic book, that particular line, but Kirkman and Scott, they both wanted me to shave my beard, but I was in the middle of doing a job (The Good Wife) when I came down to Atlanta to shoot that scene. Literally in the middle of an episode so I couldn't just shave it. I think we'd shot the end of the episode."
Come next season I wouldn't be surprised to see the actor sans facial hair, falling closer in line with the comics. Regardless, beard or not, Morgan pegged the essence of the character in the short time we saw him on screen, so if the guy wants to grow chops and a bandito mustache I'm still cool with it.
